Friday Night Writers is one of London’s newest events for book launches, readings and open mics, all presented in the Swiss Cottage Library art gallery. If you read your poetry or prose in the open mic session at each event you’ll have a chance to submit to the annual Friday Night Writers Anthology, published by Ward Wood. The first anthology will appear in June 2012 from this year’s readings.
Events are twice a month, and doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
Friday Night Writers is for both poetry and prose. Each event includes published poetry or prose writers, then we’ll call writers from the audience to read poems and short fiction or nonfiction. All work read can be submitted to the Friday Night Writers Anthology.
Take a look on our Events page for a full listing for the coming months.
Non-writers are also welcome! If you love poetry, fiction, nonfiction, or maybe some other form, then come along. There will be plenty of time to socialise and make friends with like-minded people. Admission is free with a small donation to the library if you would like wine. There’s also a library cafe for coffee and other refreshments.
If you would like to read then bring a poem up to 40 lines or short prose up to 1,000 words. Flash fiction and prose poetry up to 500 words will be especially welcome. Or how about a haibun? Just put down your name as you arrive and we’ll call you up. To be considered for the anthology put your contact details on your poem or prose and leave it with us at the end of the event.
If we run short of time you can still leave your submission, and if you have stage fright you can leave submissions without reading.
